France Télévisions chooses Isostem UpDown technology for its new Broadcasting and Exchange Center

DSPECIALISTS is pleased to announce France Télévisions chooses Isostem UpDown technology for its new Broadcasting and Exchange Center.

In order to improve the workflow of its new Broadcasting and Exchange Center, (Centre de Diffusion et d’Echanges), national broadcaster France Télévisions has implemented 24 Isostem units allowing automatic Upmixing or Downmixing operations from commands generated by broadcast automation.

France 4 is the first channel to benefit from this new architecture with other channel within the France Televisions Group to follow later on: « We have historically made the choice of Isostem for its exclusive ISO mode that guaranties the best stereo listening experience to viewers not equipped with 5.1 compatible devices » explains Yves Le Bras, R&D and CDE Director at France Télévisions: « Now, we don’t need DolbyE deliveries anymore, each program to be delivered either in 5.1 stereo compatible or stereo. The two different mixes are no longer necessary ». And thanks to new Iso-LU mode, 5.1 and stereo output levels are permanently adjusted according to input level allowing to compensate from possible drift due to upmix or downmix process: « We always  activate Iso-LU mode that allows France Télévisions to respect its legal obligation in terms of loudness » concludes Yves Le Bras.

ISOSTEM is an upmix system that generates a fully adequate surround sound from stereo signals in realtime and is therefore especially suited for use in broadcasting, studios and post production. It is the only upmix system that is fully compatible with stereo, delivering a surround stem that downmixes exactly to the original stereo.
