At the leat con in Hamburg, DSPECIALISTS is showcasing the possibilities for easily controlling PTZ cameras with HARVEY®. With HARVEY, DSPECIALISTS offers a powerful system for controlling audio, media, and lighting technology. Now the company is demonstrating how PTZ cameras can also be easily and flexibly integrated into projects.

HARVEY kommt bereits in zahlreichen Anwendungen zum Einsatz, darunter Bars, Restaurants, Hotels, Theater, Mehrzweckräume und Kirchen. Dank seiner offenen Architektur und der einfach konfigurierbaren Schnittstellen kann das System unterschiedlichste Geräte zentral steuern, darunter nun auch moderne PTZ-Kameras. Diese verfügen über steuerbare Schwenk-, Neige- und Zoomfunktionen (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) und werden häufig in Konferenzräumen, Theatern, Kirchen oder Überwachungsanlagen genutzt.

HARVEY is already being used in a wide range of applications, including bars, restaurants, hotels, theaters, multipurpose rooms, and churches. Thanks to its open architecture and easily configurable interfaces, the system can centrally control a wide variety of devices, including—as of now—modern PTZ cameras. These cameras feature controllable pan, tilt, and zoom functions and are frequently used in conference rooms, theaters, churches, or surveillance systems.

With HARVEY, such processes are not only controlled but also intelligently linked to other system functions. This allows camera positions to be changed automatically when, for example, the automixer detects that someone is speaking into a specific microphone.

The technical implementation is carried out in HARVEY-Composer using a “Logic » Serial” block. This block converts logic signals from the project into control commands, which are then transmitted to the camera via serial interfaces or the network. In the current application example, HARVEY controls a Telycam Vision+ 4KN 30X over the network using the widely used VISCA protocol.

The required VISCA commands can be copied directly from the camera manual and pasted into HARVEY Composer. HARVEY supports both text and binary messages, providing the necessary foundation for communication with VISCA devices.

Particularly convenient: The Telycam camera automatically saves camera positions and zoom settings as presets. HARVEY simply needs to recall them. Alternatively, direct control commands for pan, tilt, and zoom movements can be sent. Various options are available for manual operation, including RC wall panels, HARVEY Touch, or external controllers.

However, the system’s true power comes from the HARVEY presets. They offer far more than just the ability to recall settings: With a single button press, audio, lighting, media, and camera functions can all be triggered simultaneously.

In addition, time-controlled sequences, automatic camera movements, or entire sequence chains can be configured in HARVEY Composer using drag-and-drop. Features such as long-press triggers and customizable time delays provide additional security and prevent unintended switching.
